Shoulder Height: 35-40 cm, Mass: 3-5 kg, Gestation: 170 days.
The Damara dik-dik inhabits bush ans scrub thickly strewn with rock. This species can be found in Damaraland, Kunene Province and Etosha in Namibia, and also in southern Angola. Its range extends beyond southern Africa. A shy, diminutive, animal, it is usually found in pairs. It marks its territory with secretions from preorbital glands. The female has no horns.
Browser, Appears to be independent of water. Will utilize leaves and flowers.
Faeces have a distinctive point and are 0,5-1 cm long. Communal dung middens (within home range) are established, which can cover an area of up to 4 metres by 5 metres. Scrape marks are a feature of these middens. (Information supplied by Sharon Montgomery, Namibia.)
